Commisioning of the Langer Heinrich uranium project was achieved on 28 december 2006 and the mine was officially opened on the 14 of march 2007. Gencor, now part of BHP-Billiton, carried out extensive evaluation work on the project over a 8 year period. This followed the discovery of the calcrete hosted uranium mineralisation in the early 1970's.
